Ankizy Gasy Foundation

Ankizy Gasy ~ Children of Madagascar Foundation is a non-profit organization aiming to enable the education of children in Madagascar. The foundation was originally set up by three Polish volunteers and since July 2014 has also been an officially recognized NGO in the Republic of Madagascar (registered in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a number No 2014-182- AE/SG/DGCD/DIR/SCD/00. AUN.) The charity was created in order to help children in need in the Republic of Madagascar; poor, bare-footed but always smiling and ready to learn! Their main aim is to raise funds to enable Malagasy children to learn in a school and provide them with at least one meal a day.

Madagascar is fourth biggest island in the world, located on Indian Ocean. It enchants with its beauty but still it is one of the poorest regions of the world. The poverty is present everywhere and especially in the villages and in the forests where there is a lack of potable (safe) drinking water, electricity, roads or schools. The island is visited by cyclones every single year, causing severe damages to houses, fields and roads etc. 90% of the population have to survive for about 60p or less per day. For the last several years about 60% of the country population has remained with no access to any education. Among those who would be lucky to start schooling only one in five will get to secondary school level and complete it with an A-level.

Ankizy Gasy are looking for volunteers who are ready to work with them in one of their schools in Madagascar. All year round volunteers may carry out English or French language courses at different levels at school or simple language plays in a nursery. During school holidays they organize different activities such as art and crafts lessons or sport. Most of their children have the possibility to play only at school, as there isn't even a single toy in their homes. They also work in nurseries and clinics as well as hosting volunteers to help in the school canteens, renovate schools and work in the garden.
